Diocese of Pathanamthitta is a new Diocese working among the socio-economically backward sections of the society. For the faith formation of our children, we organize catechism classes for our children on all Sundays in our churches after the Holy Mass. These classes are found very useful in imparting our church teachings to the children when they are very young. Catechism classes are organized from Kindergarten to Standard XII. There is a syllabus and textbook for conducting the catechism. At the parish level, we organize these classes with the active support of the committed adults and youth, who help us to conduct the catechism classes. Catechism classes are helping the children to know more about our Catholic faith and the different sacraments of the church.

As a first priority of the new Diocese, we would like to give priority in making our catechism classes more effective, systematic and to enroll all the catholic children into the catechism classes. This calls for capacity building for the catechism teachers so that they could conduct the catechism classes more effectively for the benefit of our children. The catechism teachers are committed youth and adults, who are doing the service due to love of God and will be with us for many more years in propagating our faith. In many cases, the youth who are serving as catechism teachers are new to our faith and the teachings of the church.
